PICO California Gubernatorial Forum
The 2003 PICO California Gubernatorial Forum was a gathering of the gubernatorial candidates for the re-call election.  Moderators presented questions and expressed concerns on important topics such as healthcare, education, housing and immigration issues such as access to driver’s licenses.

For the Gubernatorial Forum we wanted to have as many attendees and as much media coverage as we could possibly get because of the importance of this event in California history.  We reached out to many non-profit organizations and churches in Spanish, English and Vietnamese announcements to promote the event. Now expecting 2,000 attendees we were notified the day before the event that there would be a 45 minute unexpected delay before the forum could begin. We were able to arrange an entertainment program of folkloric dancers, comedians, guitarist and national anthem singer within 24 hours, at no cost. We did not receive a single complaint from the attendees for the delay. We garnered national coverage by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, and all major print media came out to cover this important and historical event.

The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) National Conference*
Alegria 2003, the Hispanic National Bar Association’s four-day annual convention attracts the largest gathering of Hispanic attorneys, judges, politicians, law professors and law students in the nation. Hundreds of the most influential Hispanics in the country convened at the San Jose Fairmont to participate in great business forums and seminars that focus on important political and social issues facing Hispanics. Full conference passes included all meals, education and entertainment. Attendees were treated to themed parties each evening such as “Noche de Flamenco” in the Circle of Palms, “¡Viva Mexico!” at the Mexican Heritage Plaza to the final gala “Fiesta Tropical” at the Fairmont Hotel celebrating the different Latino cultures with food, drink and entertainment from their tierra.

One of our major goals in putting this event together was increasing the attendance of the conference compared to past years. We increased marketing efforts to include emails, event specific website, on-line registration and contacted Hispanic Ad agencies for sponsorships. All law schools and bar associations were contacted and a mailing list was purchased with 20,000 Hispanic attorneys in the nation. We succeeded in increasing the attendance by 43% of which 50% had never attended the event before. Sponsorship monies increased by 55% compared to the previous year.
