Silicon Valley Hispanic Charity Ball
The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley grew out of a special event, the Hispanic Foundation Ball, which was first held in 1990 to raise awareness about issues affecting the Latino community, promote volunteerism, celebrate philanthropic leaders, and provide the funding vehicle to support nonprofit organizations serving the Hispanic community with cash grants. Over the course of its history, the event has become a powerful tool for building and channeling community philanthropy.

The Hispanic Foundation Charity Ball attendance and sponsorships had taken a hit by the economy and the decision was made to bring in Marketing Maniacs to revive this important community event.

Hilbloom Camp Opening*
Diabetes Society of Silicon Valley provided much needed services to diabetics including summer youth camps. Larry L. Hillblom Foundation, non-profit corporation funded through a bequest from Larry L. Hillblom, one of the three founders of DHL Worldwide Express, became a first-time donor offering $250K towards the summer camps.

Marketing Maniacs was hired to thank the foundation and build a relationship with their new donor. We organized a Hillblom Camp ground breaking and invited the family member to a day at camp where they were able to meet the children, participate in activities and see first-hand the specialized food and medical staff required to run this special camp. Three months later the Hilbloom foundation granted an additional $250K to the Diabetes Society and continued to give an equal amount annually.

Mariachis para Guadalupe*
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church claims a special place in the life of labor leader Cesar Chavez, the founder of the organization that became the United Farm Workers. It was at the church that Chavez heard the words of Jesuit missionary Fr. Donald McDonnell and was inspired to begin his civil-rights work. When Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish had $25,000 worth of instruments stolen from their church, the community was heartbroken.

I was able to organize a fundraiser in 4 days by recruiting Mariachi groups, creating a social media campaign, contacting media, managing ticket and food sales. 1200 people showed up to support the church and $40,000 in cash plus in-kind donations were raised.

The Scavenger Hunt
The Role Model Program founded in 1989 by Mayor Ron Gonzales and other dedicated business and community leaders is a nonprofit organization whose goals are to educate students to achieve academic excellence and positive life choices.

The Role Model Program was looking for a fresh new idea to raise money for the program.  Impressed with other Marketing Maniacs events, they approached us to create a signature event that was different from the usual cocktail party. Thus the Scavenger Hunt was born. The Scavenger Hunt was an event where teams of people dart about downtown San Jose to gather clues, perform tasks and search the city for unusual items in the quest to be the first to cross the finish line. Evening Magazine’s hosts Malou Nubla & Mike Rowe have covered and participated in the event for the last two years.
